Contract Administrator

CA$45–$60 / hr Ontario (Northern) Full-time · Contract

HyBuild Engineering is seeking an experienced Contract Administrator to join our Critical Infrastructure team. This role is ideal for a motivated professional with strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer civil, municipal, and MTO infrastructure construction contracts
  • Lead and supervise site inspection teams across multiple active projects
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and quality control procedures
  • Review and manage RFIs, change orders, progress payments, construction claims, and project documentation
  • Coordinate daily with clients, contractors, project managers, designers, inspectors, and subconsultants
  • Conduct constructability reviews and support project delivery
  • Track project schedules, budgets, contractor progress, and design changes
  • Prepare meeting minutes, recommendation letters, and project reports
  • Maintain accurate records using document control and project management systems

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology
  • P.Eng. or C.E.T. designation preferred
  • Mandatory completion of MTO TLT131 – Advanced Claims & Dispute Resolution training (newly certified welcome)
  • Strong knowledge of OPS specifications, MTO standards, QA/QC procedures, and construction contract administration
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle

Work Location & Travel

  • Full-time site-based position with travel and relocation required across Ontario, primarily Northern Ontario (Thunder Bay, Timmins, Dryden, etc.)
  • Night work may be required depending on project needs
  • Residence accommodation may be provided for candidates relocating to Northern Ontario

Compensation & Benefits

Project Manager

CA$50–$75 / hr Ontario · Hybrid Remote Part-time · Contract · Seasonal

We need our team to be versatile and enthusiastic to work in highly flexible, team-oriented environments that have exceptional communication, analytical, and organizational skills. You will have the chance to perform at various facets of work on the construction site and perform continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, specifications, and project management standards.

Responsibilities

  • Project Manager of civil municipal infrastructure projects
  • Supervise a team with multiple site inspectors and a contract administrator
  • Manage multiple active projects in the construction phase, including direct communication with clients, contractors, designers, contract coordinators, site inspectors, and subconsultants
  • Experience in the review, analysis, negotiation, and resolution of construction claims
  • Conduct constructability reviews to support design delivery as required
  • Provide operational support and act as first-line supervisor on construction projects as required
  • Assist the Contract Administrator and team in reviewing and implementing RFIs, invoicing, and change orders

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering (Bachelor's degree or Civil Engineering Technology Diploma)
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation
  • Mandatory completion of MTO TLT131 – Advanced Claims & Dispute Resolution training
  • At least two (2) MTO projects with a tender value of $3 million or more as Project Manager (mandatory)
  • Experience with progress payments, change orders, leading site meetings, and recommendation letters
  • Strong ability to identify and proactively address construction issues
  • Familiarity with OPS specifications, standard drawings, and QA/QC material testing methods
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; valid driver's license

Senior Inspector

CA$62,000–$110,000 / yr Northern Ontario Full-time · Seasonal

HyBuild Engineering has extensive experience in this field and, combined with your experience, will propel your career forward. We need our Inspectors to be versatile and enthusiastic about working in highly flexible, team-oriented environments. You will perform well-defined and sometimes difficult inspection tasks, monitor quality control procedures, and conduct continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities. We are currently seeking candidates for Northern Ontario projects. Willingness to travel and/or relocate, including night work, is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Perform civil and structural inspections on various municipal and provincial construction projects
  • Perform surveillance of underground piping to ensure tightness, bedding, and grade; inspect piling installation
  • Validate piping systems including P&ID checks and hydraulic or other pressure tests
  • Provide general inspection on all construction labour and subcontracted tasks to ensure professional workmanship
  • Verify equipment alignment and balancing; participate in development of job safety practices and safety reports
  • Participate in developing quality control reports and procedures
  • Complete daily diaries and documentation of construction activities, testing, non-conformances, and photographs
  • Oversee Junior Inspectors and Checkers

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in structural, watermain, asphalt, and/or grade inspection on MTO or municipal projects (structural experience an asset)
  • Demonstrated experience on at least three (3) MTO or municipal projects as a Construction Inspector
  • University degree or College diploma in Civil Engineering
  • Past MTO/Municipal experience in construction field work is a must
  • Professional designations preferred: RCCA, RCSI, RCJI (OACETT) or E.I.T. status
  • Engineers-in-Training registered with the PEO with appropriate related work experience
  • Valid driver's license and personal vehicle (100% travel required)

Compensation & Benefits

  • $35–$45/hr or $62,000–$110,000/year salary range
  • Mileage or daily expenses paid depending on site location ($75–$200/day)

Junior Inspector

CA$24–$30 / hr Various Ontario Locations Full-time · Contract · Seasonal

You will perform well-defined inspection tasks, inspect various facets of work on the construction site, and perform continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities. Willingness to travel and/or relocate to field sites, as well as night work, is expected.

  • Final-year undergraduate engineering student, or college civil engineering technician/technology student
  • Minimum 1 year construction experience preferred
  • Valid driver's license and personal vehicle required (100% travel required); mileage paid
